Subpoetics International

Subpoetics International is a multi-site theatre, dance, and performance school. Founded in June 2015 in Paris, during intensive workshops through which the seven original members transformed various learning experiences into a performance style.

We now have over 100 members active around the world. Our main work centers are New York City, Lviv, and Ljubljana. Our principal teaching artists come from Burkina Faso, Ljubljana, Lviv, New York, Tokyo, Vienna, and Zagreb.

Performance Typewriters

Performance Typewriters is a digital media network that connects Subpoetics International to the public. Our goal is to address the disenfranchisement of innovative performers by their own profession and redress indignities resulting from obscure cultural practices that restrict people from performing arts educational institutes and the profession.

Performance Typewriters produces and streams performances and workshops for people whose interest in cultural awareness is dignified through the performing arts.

Performance Typewriters performers are comprised of Subpoetics International’s inner circle of teaching artists and our students.

Our Mission

Subpoetics International’s foremost goal is active renunciation of Xenophobia through performance. Wherever Subpoetics goes, our school leaves behind autonomous theatre and dance groups. We supply advanced education in performing beyond standardized entrenched arts education. We provide youth and emerging artists entrée into an international community of professional performing artists eager to create new works together.

Our Projects

According to where and when Subpoetics travels, we rotate teaching/learning teams; lead intensive workshops; and facilitate performances. Our workshops consist of physical and vocal training, performance triage clinics, improvisation, creative dramatics for youth and senior communities, and opportunities for professional performers to teach while they create. We provide a safe, judgment-free environment for performing artists - space to breathe, train, learn, teach, create, and perform new works.

Now, after five years of consistent work, Subpoetics leadership consists of Seth Baumrin and a revolving team of Lviv, Ljubljana, and New York City’s foremost young theatre and dance-makers. We are joined by like-minded actors, dancers, musicians, photographers, and visual artists from Austria, Burkina Faso, France, Jamaica, Iran, Poland, Japan, Ukraine, and the USA.
